International Bassoon Camp for Players of All Abilities

Due to the restrictions imposed because of COVID19 and out of concern for the health and safety of our faculty and our clientele, Jo Ann Simpson and Richard Hoenich – co-directors and founders of Brooke Valley Bassoon Days – offered the exciting opportunity to gather with bassoonist friends old and new from all across Canada and around the world in a virtual setting in August 2020.

From August 14-20 2021, we celebrate 10 years of Brooke Valley Bassoon Days. We look forward to reuniting faculty and participants from the past 10 years and welcoming new friends from near and far in both a physical and a virtual setting. We call it #hybridbvbd2021.

Our programming will include what we love to do at Brooke Valley Bassoon Days, while still allowing some free time.

The 10th Annual Brooke Valley Bassoon Days, #hybridbvbd2021 edition, includes:

  • Small group scales, warm ups and fundamental sessions with a coach
  • Guided yoga and mindfulness sessions
  • Masterclasses daily
  • Webinars with outstanding Canadian and International bassoonists on a wide variety of bassoon related topics
  • Let’s make reeds together!
  • Hybrid virtual and in person “Rackett of Bassoons”
  • Faculty concert
  • World premieres of works by bassoonist Benjamin Glossop written for bassoon quartet and the Rackett of Bassoons, commissioned to celebrate 10 years of BVBD, thanks to a grant from the City of Ottawa.

All activities will be available for full participation online except the following, which will be in person only.

  • Small ensemble rehearsals with a coach
  • Private lessons
  • Recreation (swimming, hiking, boating, bonfires etc)
  • Socializing over great meals
  • Stargazing

In person BVBD2021 is dependent on the Government of Ontario and the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Health Unit continuing to allow us to meet as a group. Should government guidelines force us to shut down, your in person registration will be converted to an online registration and your room and board payment will be fully refunded.

As of June 28 2021, in person participation is limited to 35 people – first come, first served.
