Joelle Amar

Joelle Amar has enjoyed a musically diverse career since the completion of her studies at McGill University and at l’École Normale de Musique de Paris.

She has played bassoon and contrabassoon for orchestras such as National Arts Centre Orchestra, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, and l’Orchestre Symphonique de Québec.

She has also participated in chamber ensembles, recordings, radio and television broadcasts and in opera, theatre, and ballet pit orchestras.

Currently her time is split between performing, teaching at CÉGEP St-Laurent, Vanier College, and as a specialist for several school commissions in the greater Montréal area.

Joelle is forever grateful to David Carroll, Sydney Rosenberg, André Sennedat, Leonard Sharrow, Mordechai Rechtman, and Gerald Corey, all of whom contributed greatly to her development as a musician and teacher.

As our contrabassoon expert, Joelle Amar is an invaluable member of the faculty at Brooke Valley Bassoon Days driving bassoonists and all their gear to BVBD, coaching small ensembles, leading the contra section in the Rackett of Bassoons, giving private lessons on both bassoon and contrabassoon. You will always find Joelle in the reed room. She has joined us at BVBD EVERY YEAR since its inception in 2012.
